Lock-in office cleaning contracts explained (and why you should avoid them)

What is a lock-in office cleaning contract?

A lock-in office cleaning contract, similar to a lock-in phone contract, or lock-in utilities contract, means you are contractually obligated to pay a certain amount, on a certain schedule, for a certain period of time, for a given service.

For example, $250, paid monthly, for a year, for scheduled fortnightly office cleans.

 

What are the benefits of a lock-in office cleaning contract?

There are a few benefits of a lock-in office cleaning contract. By locking in a price, it means you have the reassurance and knowledge that the amount you’re paying for your office cleaning service is not going to change within the next year. This kind of information is useful when it comes to things like future proofing and annual budgets.

Lock-in office cleaning contracts can also give you peace of mind – for the next year or so, you know your Perth office is going to get cleaned regularly, hopefully without issue.

 

What are the cons of a lock-in office cleaning contract?

Unlike a phone plan, or the supply of gas and electricity, the provision of office cleaning services is more complicated than a simple transaction. At PetraClean, we don’t do lock-in contracts, meaning you have the ability to leave us at any time if you’re not happy with our cleaning service. We only ask for one month’s notice provided by either party (this allows us to ensure a proper handover, including a final clean, removal of our cleaning equipment and return of your keys). Our lack of contract ties into one of our values of believing we’re only as good as our last clean.

Just because you’re not locked-in, doesn’t mean you’ll be surprised by a sudden increase in cleaning fees. Our service price is in accordance with the rates set down by the national Cleaning Services Award, which dictates the amount a cleaner must be paid. Changes are not regular (every few years at most), but if they do occur by arbitration, they will be applied from that date and you will be notified immediately.

In 2020, we withheld any increases in the new financial year, due to the impact COVID-19 had on many Perth offices and businesses.
