Want to know the correct method of cleaning high traffic carpeted floors in your Perth office? Read on to learn more.
Step 1. Pre-clean vacuum of carpets
When it comes to giving your office carpets the deepest clean possible, its important you start with a pre-clean vacuum. This will help remove debris that gets caught in carpet fabric, including sand, dirt, lint, and hair.
While not removing this debris before performing a steam clean won’t result in scratches and damage like on a tiled floor, it will ensure a far more effective clean.
At PetraClean, we use backpack vacuums fitted with HEPA filters. A High-Efficiency Particulate Air filter, better known as HEPA, is a type of filter that can trap a large number of very small particles that other vacuum cleaners would otherwise recirculate back into the air.
Vacuums that use HEPA filters are considered superior because they minimize dust, skin cells, hair, and other particles that can exacerbate allergies and respiratory conditions.
In cases where hair removal is particularly difficult to remove, we also recommend the use of sticky rolls, rubber brushes and stiff brooms.
Step 2. Spot test carpet cleaning chemicals
Just like it’s important to spot test with beauty products like hair dye and tint, it’s important to spot test cleaning chemicals before using on your carpet. Because every type of carpet reacts differently to even standard cleaning chemicals, spot testing is a must to ensure there isn’t unexpected staining.
We recommend testing in a non-obvious spot in the room, for example, under a desk of another piece of furniture to ensure the chemical does not impact the colour or condition of your office carpet.
Step 3. Pre-clean office carpets to help with odours, viruses and bacteria
At PetraClean, we recommend the usage of hospital grade disinfectants and odour neutralizers in the pre-clean and post-clean stage of cleaning office carpets. Not only does this help to fight unpleasant odours, it also helps to destroy and prevent viruses and bacteria, a must in today’s COVID-19 world.
Step 4. Steam clean office carpets
While you can clean your office carpets with a portable steam cleaning machine, it’s nowhere near the sort of deep clean you’ll get with a commercial grade truck mounted steam cleaning machine.
While lightweight portable machines make a lot of noise, the combination of both low water pressure and low suction that means the build-up deep within your carpets won’t get touched.
This can result in dirt being extracted only partly and carpet staying damp, which increases the chance of bacteria and mould developing.
To get your carpets truly clean, you’ll need to employ a cleaner that uses a truck mount machine, like PetraClean. Our USA-manufactured carpet cleaning unit is permanently fitted into large van, is petrol powered, capable of running very high pressure, and includes an industrial-strength vacuum pump.
During the steam clean is when you’ll also use products like carpet shampoo for a general clean, and any spot cleaning products for specific stains.
Step 5. Post-clean office carpet treatments
Use your selected disinfectants and/or odour neutralisers to ensure your office carpets stay smelling great and free of germs for the weeks months to come.
Step 6. Time to dry
While not such an issue if you’re using an industrial strength carpet steam cleaner due to suction power, it’s important that your carpets receive good airflow once they’re been cleaned. This will highly decrease the drying time of steam cleaned carpets and will prevent unpleasant odours and mould growth.
Thanks to Perth’s beautiful weather, carpets will dry very quickly in the summer months, with fans, blowers and air conditioners on ‘dry’ mode beneficial in the winter months.
When it comes to cleaning carpeted office floors, there’s no substitute for a professional clean. Carpets are an expensive investment, and regular deep cleaning for high traffic areas, and annual cleaning for other areas, is essential in maintaining their durability. After all, it’s a lot cheaper to regularly clean your carpets than it is to replace them.
